Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu 2d/1n
Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu 2d/1n day1Day 1 . Transfer from your hotel to the train station at 5.30am to take the morning train from Cusco to Km 104 (2,000 m). Upon arrival at the Warden’s post, authorization will be checked. The start of the hike passes through the interesting Inca complex of Chachabamba (2100m/6550ft). A three hour ascent up the mountainside into a ravine brings us to the archaeological complex of Wiñaywayna (always young) with an altitude of 2650m/8692ft. This is an impressive complex made up of an agricultural center with numerous terraces, a religious sector and an urban sector. On the way up you will have magnificent views over the Urubamba River valley, as well as the Choquesuysuy archaeological complex located on the opposite side of the river. There is also a beautiful waterfall located just a few minutes away from Wiñaywayna. After visiting the complex, we will enjoy lunch at the visitor centre. Following this we leave to climb up to Intipunku, or The Sun Gate. This takes about two hours, and most of the path is constructed of flat stones on the edges of cliffs in the highland jungle. From The Sun Gate there is a spectacular view of the sacred citadel of Machupicchu. We will then descend to the ruins of Machupicchu where a short time can be spent taking photographs. A bus will take us from here to Aguas Calientes where you will be transferred to your comfortable hotel.
Meals provided – lunch.
